HOW DOES THE TOMATIS METHOD WORK?
For one in ten people, learning and communication are truncated by a difficulty in integrating information. In these cases, we talk about listening being disturbed. Seventy years ago, Alfred Tomatis, a French ENT Doctor, developed a pedagogy that seeks to restore the proper functioning of listening through music and voice.

The music is selected based on the needs of each person, and then modified through electronic equipment. These equipment regulates the identification of the music through a series of filters and balances, which dynamizes the structures and fonctionof the middle ear, transmitting in turn, the information to the vestibule and cochlea, favoring the functions carried out by these organs.

What are the functions of the inner ear?

The Inner Ear integrates the information processed by each of its components (vestibule and cochlea), being very important in the integration of sensory information and also intervenes in the correct performance of a person.
The function of the Vestibule:
-
Sense of spacial location
-
Time /Space organization
-
Motor Coordination
-
physical balance
-
Emotional balance
The Function of the Cochlea:
-
Auditory discrimination, which is the ability to select the sounds that we consider most relevant.
-
Inhibition of sounds that are not relevant within what we have selected.
-
Spatial location of sound and its source.
-
Integration of sound and body information to make language possible.
-
Regulation of communicative posture
-
Voice regulation.
-
Dynamization of the nervous system.

All of these functions are stimulated by music and modified voice, both used throughout ear training. For this reason, the Tomatis Method benefits problems such as attention deficit, emotional disorders, language disorders and general development.
